Certified Mentor Coach (CMC)
Advanced Mentor Coach Training for the Next Era of Coaching Development
Prepare to support coaches through ACC, PCC, and MCC level development with advanced mentor coaching training focused on observation, developmental feedback, and competency-based mentoring in our Certified Mentor Coach program.
A Message from Coach Cheryl
After training more than 4,500 coaches over the past 16 years, one thing has become very clear:
Being a strong coach does not automatically translate into being an effective mentor coach.
Mentor coaching requires a different focus…
A different way of listening….
And a highly developed skillset when it comes to observing coaching sessions and delivering developmental feedback.
With the changes already unfolding within the ICF and the coaching profession, it became clear that mentor coach training needed to evolve as well.
This Certified Mentor Coach (CMC) program was designed to help coaches develop the observational awareness, mentoring skills, and competency-based feedback abilities that mentor coaches increasingly need within today’s coaching industry.
What This Program Is
Mentor coaching is a developmental process.
As a certified mentor coach, your role is to:
🟣Observe coaching sessions with precision
🟣Support reflection and professional awareness
🟣Provide competency-based developmental feedback
🟣Help coaches strengthen alignment with ACC, PCC, and emerging MCC-level distinctions
🟣Track mentee progress throughout the mentoring process
This program focuses on helping coaches build real-world mentor coaching skills through observation, practice, developmental feedback, and guided discussion.
The Future of Mentor Coaching
The coaching industry is evolving, and expectations around mentor coaching are evolving alongside it.
The ICF has already begun introducing changes that place greater emphasis on:
☑️Competency-based developmental feedback
☑️Alignment with ACC, PCC, and MCC performance standards
☑️Greater consistency in mentor coaching and observation
☑️Specialized mentor coach preparation
☑️Ongoing mentor coach development and training
While requirements will continue evolving, one thing is becoming increasingly clear:
Mentor coaching is becoming more defined, more structured, and more aligned with coaching performance standards than ever before.
Our Certified Mentor Coach (CMC) program, was designed with that future in mind.
The Emerging Mentor Coaching Specialization (MCS)
The International Coaching Federation (ICF) has announced the emerging Mentor Coaching Specialization (MCS), reflecting the growing recognition that mentor coaching is becoming a more defined and specialized area within the coaching profession.
This evolution places greater emphasis on:
☑️Competency-based developmental feedback
☑️ACC BARS, PCC Markers, and MCC-level distinctions
☑️Structured mentor coaching processes
☑️Observation and developmental mentoring skills
☑️Ongoing mentor coach education and development
As expectations around mentor coaching continue evolving, coaches who develop strong observational awareness and competency-based mentoring skills will likely be better positioned for future opportunities within coach education, credentialing support, and accredited training programs.
Our Certified Mentor Coach (CMC) program was intentionally designed to align with the direction the profession is moving and to help coaches strengthen the developmental mentoring skills increasingly needed within today’s coaching industry.
